Summary:

Shift leaders assist in directing the food services operation at the McCord Dining Facility. This employee works within administrative guidelines.

The Shift lead supervises the overall activities and reviews the work of the employee team to ensure completion of work assignments and compliance with standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directs the work of staff in the operation of a shift, acting as a mentor/trainer to employees
  • Identifies staff needs and ensures training is carried out.
  • Ensures proper labor relations and conditions of employment are maintained.
  • Maintains a communication log and composes correspondence relative to the work.
  • Ensures the implementation and practice of sanitation established by the ServSafe standards.
  • Ensures that all safety standards are being met according to company policies.
  • Supervises staff in the set-up and serving of food and ensures proper food storage is being followed by all employees.
  • Substitutes for absent employees as needed.
  • Ensures customer service is carried out at an acceptable level.
  • Administers accurate accounting procedures while preparing, reconciling and securing cash drawers each shift.
  • Attends all mandated meetings and in-services to stay current with industry requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Two years’ experience in food services, procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance relating to a food service operation.
  • Knowledge of OSHA codes and environmental safety procedures.
  • Current Washington food-handler’s card and working knowledge of food codes and their applications pertaining to sanitation, cleanliness, and infection control. (Military required Servsafe training will be given within first 30 days of employment).
  • Knowledge of employee policies and procedures and supervisory techniques.
  • Able to instruct, evaluate, motivate, and supervise employees.
  • Able to operate equipment and tools used in the food service industry.
  • Able to communicate and work well with others.
  • Have excellent customer service and able to maintain favorable public relations.
  • Should have strong leadership qualities, including: effective problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills. Should have professional manner, ability to give clear concise instructions, effective time management skills and decision making skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of classified information.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have the ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess or be able to acquire ServSafe and/or Food Handlers Card, First-Aid and CPR certifications.

Other Qualifications: Must be able to work ­­­­­­­­­­­­varying shifts (a.m. or p.m. or weekends).

  • Must be able to follow explicit written verbal directions.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Prior experience working with / supervising people with disabilities highly desired.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to pass criminal history background check.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally and must be able to stand on feet for extended period of time.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
