Gauntlet Production Workers:

Summary: Responsible for sorting and processing of donated merchandise into gaylords. This includes pushing and pulling of rolling tables to the sales floor and operating heavy machinery. Heavy machinery may include but not limited to hydraulic tippers, manual pallet jacks, and garbage compactor. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  •  Unloads sacks, boxes, and miscellaneous donated items from trucks into donation carts and transports them to proper processing or storage areas.
  •  Sorts goods into appropriate categories
  •  Inspects items for salability.
  •  Records and keeps daily production records.
  •  Monitors and reports supply needs to supervisor.
  •  Assists the supervisor with training of employees and clients and performs quality control evaluations.
  •  Ensures the area stays clean, well organized and safe. 

Education and/or Experience: Related production experience preferred. 

Language Skills: Able to understand simple instructions and complete production documentation. 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Physical Demands Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally required to team lift and/or move more than 40 pounds with other team members. 

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to work in outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally required to work within wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and with fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The “gauntlet” consists of two parallel rows of gaylords with each gaylord representing a different category. When tables are removed from the sales floor they are processed in the gauntlet until the tables are empty. Once they are emptied more product is placed on them and brought back out to the sales floor. This process occurs around 100 times per day.
